The First Tree

first tree

(Post No. 1)
To my family: Genealogy has been my hobby for more than 50 years. It started when my grandmother Nana (Popee’s mother) drew four family trees on paper so I could see where Susie, Lindy, and I came from. This one is the Gorman Tree. I will talk about the others in future posts. (See larger tree picture here)

I was about 17 and before that moment, it hadn’t occurred to me to pay much attention to more than the six people I knew of who were involved in my existence — my parents and two sets of grandparents. I started to appreciate that I came from a combination of countless people before all of them.

I wanted to know more. Who were they, where did they come from, what did they do, who were their children, what were they like, what did they look like, and how many of them can I find?

This blog is a way to share everything I’ve learned over the decades a little at a time. I keep discovering new bits of information almost daily and each one is as exciting as the first one in 1967. I hope you enjoy these discoveries with me!

You will soon know a lot about us, Al!

I remember seeing that tree when Nana made it. Glad you have kept that after all these years. And it’s really interesting that you have gathered so much information about our family. Thanks Nancy! xo Lindy

You’re welcome, Lindy. Nana’s tree is what got me interested in all this. So I owe it all to her.
