Michael's birth was not certified (registered) according to his death certificate. He was pre-mature, age recorded as 32 hours, son of Michael Doran, a stand loam Cotton Weaver. The informant of his death was his mother, Mary Doran who signed with her "X" that she was present as hihs death at 5 Rothwell's Yard, Belvoir Street, Wigan. The death was registered the same day, 25 May 1858 by Robert Halliwell, Registrar.

(3) 1.1.5 Catherine DORAN
Birth Date 1859
Birth Place Wigan, Lancashire, England
Birth Memo Wigan & Leigh: WIG/56/488
Occ Cotton Operative
Alias Doren

During the 1881 British Census, Catherine Doran lived with her mother at 12 Farrimonds Row, Wigan, Lancashire, England.

In the 1891 UK Census John Doyle, age 4, son of Thomas Doyle who died in 1886 and Margaret Doran-Gorman-Doyle, lived with his aunt, Catherine Doran, who was married to Mark Keilty (or other spellings). They lived at 44 Adeleade Street, The ward of St. Thomas, Wigan. This household had the following people:

John Kelly, Head, Widower, 55, fireman in Cotton Mill, born in Ireland
William Wood, step son, married, 36, coal miner, born in Wigan
Ann Wood, step-daughter, 37, housekeeper, born in Ireland
Mark Keilty, boarder, married, 40, coal miner, born in Wigan
Catharine Keilty, boarder, 30, married, cotton spinner, born in Wigan
John Daley (Doyle), boarder, 4, born in Wigan
Lawrence Keilty, 7 mos, born in Wigan

We can assume that William Wood is the son of John Kelly's dead wife by a previous marriage/relationshhip. Ann Wood is the wife of William Wood. Mark Keilty is, perhaps, the son of John Kelly. The english-speaking enumerator undoubtedly heard the Irish pronunciation of Kelly as Keilty. Catherine Keilty is Catherine Doran and Lawrence Keilty is their son. John Daley is John Doyle, the son of Margaret Doran-Gorman-Doyle and Thomas Doyle.

Catherine was born about 1858 so her age is off about two years in both of these census.

(2) 1.2 John DORAN
Birth Date 1825
Birth Place Ireland
Occ 1841: Cotton Weaver

On the 1851UK Census of England, John Doran is living at the house of Francis and Betty McGrogan as a lodger at 179 Nicholas' Nook, Scholes, Wigan. He is 26, unmarried, born in Ireland and a Stripper in a Factory.

I originally thought that Michael, John and Alice may have been triplets based on the fact that the 1841 Census entry recorded them all as "15 years of age". However, The instructions to the enumerator as to how to record ages are at the beginning of every enumerator's book and read:

"Write the age of every person under 15 years of age as it is stated to you. For persons aged 15 years and upwards, write the lowest term of 5 years within which the age is. Thus - for Persons aged 15 years and under 20 write 15 , 20 years and under 25 write 20. So these three 15 year olds would have been between 15 and 19 years old."

Where is daughter, Elizabeth? and why is JAMES DORAN not living with his wife and family in 1871? Are they separated?

Notice James Doran is not listed with his family on the 1871 UK Census of England. Instead he is listed separately as a lodger living in the house of Michael and Julia Mullen in Wigan.

And, where is daughter, Elizabeth, on the 1871 UK Census? Is she older than her sister, Mary, and maybe married at this time? But, she is listed as second daughter on the 1861 UK Census which may or may not indicate she is younger than Mary. Or is Elizabeth dead before 1871?

One good genealogy hint is that Teresa/Theresa states she was born in Dublin, Ireland. On the Free BDM site there is an 1852 marriage in Wigan for a James Doran and ???? Unfortunately, there is one of four persons missing on the grouping! This may have been Theresa. The three names given on FreeBMD were Michael Consadi, James Doran and Bridget McDunna. So there is room for a Theresa A. I will need to purchase this marriage certificate to be sure.

I also did a search up to 1861 census time and although there were other James Doran in other Districts of Lancashire, there is no mention of a Theresa/Teresa. I also did a search up to 1861 for a James Doran and Theresa/Teresa in all Counties without success.

On the 1881 UK Census of England, Theresa Doran (transcribed as Diran), born Dublin, Ireland, resides at Tytherington Lane, Tytherington, Cheshire. She is married, age 42 yrs, housekeeper. Living with her are
Joseph, 14, born in Manchester, Cotton Operative, William, 14, born Manchester, Cotton Operative and Teresa, daughter, 9 yrs., born in Manchester.

On the 1891 UK Census of England, Theresa Doran, Head, born Ireland, aged 54 yrs., lives at 22 Hope St., West Macclesfield Cheshire, carpet maker. Living with her are her daughter *Ann Doran, single, 31 yrs., shirt maker, born Ches. Macclesfield and lodger, Sarah Hilton, born Ches. Macclesfield.

In 1901: West Macclesfield, Chester Rd. *Ann Doran, Head, Widow 38 yrs., Charwoman born Staff. Wolverhampton, daughters Alice 8 born Macclesfield and Agnes Theresa 5 born Manchester Lancs.
Could be * one and the same ... perhaps she was daughter-in-law.  Perhaps just coincidence.

Deaths:  Theresa Doran aged 19 yrs. March Quarter 1891  8a  108 District Macclesfield.
Theresa Doran aged 66 yrs. June Quarter 1899 Macclesfield  8a  114.

I tried to find James Doran during these times, but couldn't. I think I have the right Theresa Doran right through.

There was one entry in Salford which was Census 1901 of a Teresa Doran aged 70 yrs., Widow, born Ireland boarding with a Salford family.  A bit old I think though.
